A fully conjugated host molecule (in order to allow conductivity) with a hydrogen bonding motif for molecular recognition (six hydrogen bonds in the Hamilton receptor array) on one end and a sulfur unit for immobilization on gold at the other end has been synthesized and its binding to gold clusters has been investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy.
