We describe a novel class of benzocycloheptanone derived oxazolidinoneantibacterialagents. The synthesis and antibacterial activities with structure variation is discussed.

Further disclosed are methods of making biologically active compounds of formula I as well as pharmaceutically acceptable compositions comprising compounds of formula I.
