The synthesis of the novel family of heterodinuclear complexes (DP)CoAl(OR) (where DP 4- is the tetraanion of the diporphyrin biphenylene DPB or the diporphyrin anthracene DPA, and R=CH 3 , CH 2 CH 3 , or CH 2 C 6 H 5 ) is reported. These complexes were obtained by selective metalation of the cofacial diporphyrins with cobalt and aluminium. Each (DP)CoAl(OR) complex was characterized by mass spectrometry

Using a cofacial biphenylene-bridged bis(porphyrin) (DPB, 1,8-bis(5-(2,8,13,17-tetraethyl-3,7,12,18-tetramethyl)porphyrin)biphenylene), a general synthetic method for the preparation of heterodinuclear complexes with 3d, 4d, and 5d transition metals is described. For (Ossup II})(Rusup II})DPB, and DPB ligand provides a high local concentration of the mixed-metal pair, thereby controlling the stoichiometry

An unusually stable, bridged dinitrogen complex of a biphenylene bridged diporphyrin is described. The complex (μ-N 2 )Ru 2 DPB(1-tert-butyl-5-phenylimidazole) 2 (DPB=diporphyrinatobiphenylene tetraanion) is proposed as a model for a dinitrogen reduction catalyst based on cofacial metallodiporphyrins. The differences in binding by bridged and nonbridged ligands to the two coordination sites between
Diruthenium and dimolybdenum derivatives of a biphenylene-bridged cofacialporphyrindimercontaining intremolecular metal–metalbonds have been synthesized and characterized.
