  The polyhydroxypolyether of the present invention is a polyhydroxypolyether having either hydrocarbon group consisting essentially of a p-phenylene group or a divalent aromatic hydrocarbon group consisting essentially of a group other than a p-phenylene gruop, which is characterized in that it has an intrinsic viscosity of 0.1 dl/g to less than 0.3 dl/g and contains a nonionic halogen in an amount of not more than 0.2 % by weight, or end chapping characterized in that its molecule is terminated with a specific aromatic group. The present invention further provides processes for preparing the polyhydroxypolyether and uses thereof utilizing the high gas barrier properties and the high transparency.
