Disclosed are a functional reinforcing filler including inorganic particles surface-modified with an alkenylsilanol obtained by hydrolyzing an alkenylalkoxysilane compound, and a method for preparing the same. Since the disclosed functional reinforcing filler has a functional group having a double bond, it has good reactivity for styrene-butadiene rubber and sulfur. Thus, when used as a functional reinforcing filler in the manufacture of rubber, it allows improvement of physical properties through adjustment of the addition amount of sulfur without additional use of the coupling agent. In addition, because of superior hydrolysis reactivity, the problem of alcohol can be solved and a rubber mixture with long scorch time can be prepared. In particular, when the functional reinforcing filler of the present invention is used in the manufacture of tires, improvement in modulus, tensile strength, rotational resistance and wet traction performance can be expected.

A sulfur curable rubber formulation is disclosed comprising (1) at least one rubbery polymer, (2) sulfur, (3) silica, (4) 2 phf to 12 phf of a hydrophobating silane, and (5) 0.5 phf to 3 phf of a crosslinkable silane. It may be sulfur cured and used in a tire or tire tread. Also, a silica is disclosed that is reacted or pre-reacted with (1) a hydrophobating silane, and (2) a crosslinkable silane, wherein the weight ratio of the hydrophobating silane to the crosslinkable silane is within the range of 2:1 to 20:1, wherein the total weight of the hydrophobating silane and the crosslinkable silane is within the range of 2.5 phf to 15 phf, and wherein the maximum level of the crosslinkable silane is 3 phf.

A rubber composition comprising a plurality of composite particles and an elastomer is provided. A composite comprising a conductive polymer and a clay particle are also provided. Use of each in various applications and methods of preparing each are also provided.
Described is an improved process for producing chemically modified fillers by using a certain combination of functionalizing and hydrophobizing agents in an aqueous suspension of inorganic oxide having a pH of 2.5 or less and increasing the pH of the suspension after chemically treating the filler.
The present invention is related to treated filler, processes for producing said treated filler and the use of said treated filler in polymeric compositions. In particular, filler can be treated with at least one non-coupling material and at least one coupling material, then subjected to conventional drying method(s), to produce the treated filler of the present invention. The resultant treated filler has a wide variety of applications including polymeric compositions such as but not limited to rubber compositions such as tires.
