  (EN) Methods of treating or preventing neuronal loss associated with stroke, ischemia, CNS trauma, hypoglycemia and surgery, as well as treating neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Huntington's disease and Down's syndrome, treating or preventing the adverse consequences of the hyperactivity of the excitatory amino acids, as well as treating anxiety, chronic pain, convulsions and inducing anesthesia are disclosed by administering to an amimal in need of such treatment a substituted or unsubstituted 4-hydroxy-3-nitro-1,2-dihydroquinolin-2-one or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof which have high binding to the glycine receptor.(FR) Méthodes de traitement ou de prevention de la déperdition neuronale associée à l'accident vasculaire cérébral, à l'ischémie, au traumatisme du système nerveux central, à l'hypoglycémie et à certaines interventions chirurgicales, de traitement de maladies neurodégénératives telles que la maladie d'Alzheimer, la sclérose latérale amyotrophique, la chorée de Huntington et le syndrome de Down, et de traitement ou de prévention des conséquences néfastes de l'hyperactivité des acides aminés excitateurs, ainsi que de traitement de l'anxiété, des douleurs chroniques et des convulsions et d'induction de l'anesthésie, consistant à administrer à un animal nécessitant l'un des traitements mentionnés une 4-hydroxy-3-nitro-1,2-dihydroquinolin-2-one substituée ou non substituée ou des sels pharmaceutiquement acceptables de ladite substance, qui ont une forte capacité de liaison avec le récepteur de la glycine.
