  A monoazo compound of the formula, wherein X is hydrogen or a lower alkyl group; Z is hydrogen or halogen or an alkyl, acylamino, benzoylamino or alkylsulfonylamino group; each of R1, R2, R3 and R4 independently are hydrogen or an alkyl group, provided that R1, R2, R3 and R4 cannot simultaneously be hydrogen; and R5 is hydrogen or an alkyl, substituted alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or phenyl group, are prepared by diazotisation and coupling. These compounds are useful for dyeing synthetic fibers such as polyesters.
