Attempted deprotonation of the cationic cis-[Rh(PMe3)4(H)(CCR)]Cl salts with BunLi leads to the formation of both [Rh(PMe3)4(CCR)] and [Rh(PMe3)4H] whereas the use of KOH/H2O yields exclusively the RhIÏ-acetylides; the molecular structures of the trigonal-bipyramidal [Rh(PMe3)4(CCPh)] and square-planar [Rh(PMe3)3(CCSiMe3)] complexes have been determined by X-ray diffraction.
