The synthesis of mycobacterial mycolic acid related wax esters and of their trehalose di- and mono-esters is described. The trehalose dimycolates (TDMs) synthesised activated bone marrow derived dendritic cells (BMDCs) in vitro more strongly than trehalose dibehenate or the trehalose monomycolates (TMMs).
