The titled tetraselenanaphthalene derivative (BEDO-TSeN) has been synthesized using the reaction of 1,4-dioxene-2,3-diselenolate with tetraiodo- or tetrabromoethylene. The structure of this tetraselenanaphthalene derivative was confirmed by X-ray analysis. The π-donor property of this molecule was determined by CV analysis.

1,4-Dioxacyclohexyne (p-dioxyne) has been generated at low temperature in tetrahydrofuran solution from 2,3-dibromo-1,4-dioxacyclohexene, via 2-bromo-3-lithio-1,4-dioxacyclohexene, and isolated as the corresponding cyclotrimer tris(ethylendioxy)benzene (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12-dodecahydro-1,4,5,8,9,12-hexaoxatriphenylene).

AbstractBis (ethylenedioxy)‐1,4,5,8‐tetraselenanaphthalene (BEDO‐TSeN) has been synthesized by the reaction of diselenolate with tetraiodoethylene or tetrabromoethylene. The structure of BEDO‐TSeN was determined by X‐ray analysis, and its π‐donor property was estimated by MO calculations and determined by CV analysis.
