  The present invention is directed to phenylalkylthienyl­alkanoic acids and related compounds having a mercaptoal­kanoic acid substituent. These compounds are useful in the treatment of bronchial asthma and they are obtained by the reaction of an appropriate epoxy compound with a mercapto alkanoic acid. Both reactants in this process are used as the ester so that the reaction gives a diester which is then hydrolyzed to the corresponding free acids by standard procedures.
