irradiation from a compact fluorescent lamp, low-intensity UV lamp, or sunlight. This protocol can be applied to the synthesis of perfluoroalkyl-substituted phenanthridines as well as effect the iodo-perfluoroalkylation of alkenes/alkynes and the C–H perfluoroalkylation of electron-rich arenes and heteroarenes. This C–H perfluoroalkylation reaction offers a unique method for site-selective labeling of oligopeptides
Selective C(sp3)–H activation of simple alkanes: visible light-induced metal-free synthesis of phenanthridines with H2O2 as a sustainable oxidant
A visible light-induced metal-free C(sp3)–H phenanthridinylation of simple alkanes with isonitrile is developed with H2O2 as a terminal sustainable oxidant.

A simple and efficient radical coupling of 2-isocyanobiphenyl with ethers was developed, providing a variety of 6-alkylated phenanthridines. Both cyclic and acyclic ethers are suitable substrates for this transformation, which comprised the functionalization of two C-H bonds: the sp3 C-H of ether and sp2 C-H of phenyl group. The kinetic isotope effect (KIE) revealed that the cleavage of sp3 C-H bond would be involved in the rate-determining step.
rapid microwave-assisted approach for the synthesis of phenanthridine derivatives from the radical insertion/cyclization reaction of biphenyl isocyanides with a C(sp3)–H bond adjacent to a heteroatom has been developed. The protocol achieves wide substrate scope and good to excellent yields. The kinetic isotope effect (KIE) studies, radical inhibition studies, and Hammett plot analysis clearly disclose

Borylated aza-arenes are of great importance in the area of organic synthesis. A radical borylative cyclization of isocyanoarenes with N-heterocycliccarbeneborane (NHC-BH3) under metal-free conditions was developed. The reaction allows the efficient assembly of several types of borylated aza-arenes (phenanthridines, benzothiazoles, etc.), which are difficult to access using alternative methods. Mild
