Carbonyl-bridged polymeric metal chelates of some quinolinol-containing 2-iminoketones

Four-coordinate copper(II), nickel(II), cobalt(II) and cadmium(II) complexes formed by reaction of 8-hydroxyquinoline-5-iminoketones with M(II) chloride are described. Characterization of the isolated complexes has been performed on the basis of elemental and thermal analyses, electronic and IR spectral data as well as conductivity measurements. The ligands were found to act as monobasic bidentate N,O chelating agents. It is proposed that the complexes are polymeric with intermolecular carbonyl bridging. Tetrahedral or square planar stereochemical configuration is suggested for these complexes.
