ns (1-4) showed dual fluorescence composed of normal and excimer emissions in 30% aqueous DMSO solution. The fluorescence spectra of 1-4 were different from one another and varied upon guest addition in different manners depending on both host and guest. The guest-induced increases or decreases in the excimer emission intensity were used for detecting various organiccompounds.
