    New thin polymeric films were prepared electrochemically on the basis of Ni(II), Pd(II), and Pt(II) complexes with 8-quinolinol, and conditions of synthesis were optimized. Basic characteristics of the films such as the thickness, charge transfer rate in the polymeric matrix, and photovoltaic effect were determined.

    Macrocyclic receptors having extreme thermo-oxidative stability, and which bind a wide range of electron-donor substrates via pi-stacking donor-acceptor interactions, are accessible by cycloimidization of an amine-functionalized aryl ether-sulfone with pyromellitic dianhydride or 1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarboxylic dianhydride. The potential of these receptors in supramolecular chemistry is illustrated, for example, by the spontaneous self-assembly and crystallization of a five-component [3]pseudorotaxane from a solution of its constituents.

    A series of new palladium(II) complexes with heteroatomic chelating ligands (carboxylates and alcoholates) was synthesized. The catalytic activities of the palladium complexes were successfully tested for catalytic CH-activation reactions of cyclooctane. They gave TONs of 2.6-26.5 (300 degrees C, 16 h) in homogeneous solution and 4.6-21.4 (400 degrees C, 5 h) in heterogeneous reactions. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
