The present technology provides compounds selective for the Grp94 isoform, as well as compositions including such compounds, that are useful for treatment of multiple myeloma, melanoma, lung cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and/or glaucoma. Methods using the compounds are also provided.

Anion-π activation operates in water: A class of water-soluble electron-deficient molecularcages and relevant aromaticslides were efficiently synthesized. They are effective in catalyzing decarboxylative Aldol reactions of aldehydes and malonic acid half thioesters in water. The essential role of the electron-deficient π-face and a pronounced hydrophobic amplification effect is highlighted.
