    The present invention is directed to a process for the direct production of a pigmented thermoplastic polyurethane powder in finely divided form by a) reacting with agitation at an overall equivalent ratio of isocyanate groups to isocyanate reactive groups of about 0.5 to 1.1 (i) a surfactant-stabilized emulsion of fine droplets of a first reactant which has an average of about two isocyanate or isocyanate reactive groups in admixture with at least one pigment with (ii) a second reactant which contain an average of about two isocyanate or isocyanate reactive groups, in an inert organic liquid in which the first reactant, the pigment and the powder are substantially insoluble or immiscible to form particles of the powder which are protected from agglomeration by the surfactant, and b) separating the particles of the powder from the inert organic liquid. The present invention is also directed to the pigmented thermoplastic polyurethane powders obtained by this process.

    The present invention is directed to a continuous process for the production of powdered polyisocyanate addition products in finely divided form which by simultaneously a) mixing a polyisocyanate component, an isocyanate-reactive component and an inert organic medium containing a surfactant, wherein at least one of the components is insoluble in the inert organic medium, in a low shear stator-rotor dynamic mixer operating at speeds of about 300 to 8000 rpm, utilizing a mixing wattage of about 0.05 to 10.0 watts per cubic centimeter and having a mixing volume of at least about 0.1 liters and b) reacting the polyisocyanate component with the isocyanate reactive-reactive component in the inert organic medium to form solid polyisocyanate addition products which can be separated from the inert organic medium to form a powder, the average residence time of the components and the inert organic medium in the dynamic mixer being about 3 to 300 seconds and the overall flow rate through the dynamic mixer being at least about 20 kg/h. The present inventon is also directed to the powdered polyisocyanate addition products produced by this process.

    A method for producing an isocyanate group-blocked liquid urethane prepolymer which comprises: reacting a lactone-modified diol (3) with a polyfunctional isocyanate (4) to form an isocyanate group-having urethane prepolymer (5), wherein said lactone-modified diol (3) is obtainable by ring-opening addition polymerization of a lactone monomer (2) with a diol (1) selected from the group consisting of a polyalkylene ether diol, a polyester diol and a polycarbonate diol; and then reacting said urethane prepolymer with a blocking agent (6).

    A resinous curable composition comprises: (A) an epoxy resin; (B) at least carboxylic acid anhydride; (C) at least one inorganic filler, wherein at least 80% of the particles of the filler have a particle diameter size between about 10 to about 40 microns; and (D) at least one inorganic filler, wherein at least 80% of the particles of the filler have a particle diameter size greater than about 90 microns and is preferably either sand and/or granite chips. The curable composition may be hardened in the presence of a heat activated catalyst to render a scratch resistant hard surface, suitable for use as a countertop or laboratory bench top. The composition may contain as high as 89% inorganic filler.
