Abstract Three compounds, an acid and two glycosidic acids, derived from the acyl moieties of quillajasaponin were obtained from the alkaline hydrolysate of the saponin mixture. On the basis of chemical and spectral evidence, they were identified as 3,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl-octanoic acid, 3,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl-octanoic acid 5- O -α- L -arabinofuranoside and 5- O -α- L -rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-α- L -arabinofuranoside
