The oxidative ring opening of L-ascorbic acid was obtained in three steps giving oxalic and L-threonic acid. The reactions of these acids with the carbonate complex [Pt(CO)3(PPh3)2] yielded two PtII chelates, [Pt(oxalato)(PPh3)2] and the new complex [Pt(threonato-O,O′)(PPh3)2], respectively.
