The palladium-catalyzed directarylation of indoles, pyrroles, and furans by aryl chlorides has been demonstrated. The method employs a palladium acetate catalyst, 2-(dicyclohexylphosphino)-biphenyl ligand, and an inorganic base. Electron-rich and electron-poor aryl chlorides as well as chloropyridine couplingpartners can be used, and arylated heterocycles are obtained in moderate to good yields.

tert-butoxide-mediated condensation reactioninvolving a vinyl sulfoxide intermediate. Products are obtained from N- or O-benzyl benzaldehydes using dimethyl sulfoxide as a carbon source. The methodology features a wide functional group tolerance and transition metal-free environment. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest that the reactioninvolves a tandem aldol reaction/Michaeladdition/dehydrosulfenylation/isomerization

We report herein a highly efficient intramolecular coupling reaction of tertiaryamines and ketones (α,β-unsaturated ketones) by using a Brønsted acid as a cocatalyst, affording 2-arylindols in good to excellent yields (up to 92%) under visible light irradiation at room temperature.
A visiblelight-induced transition metal-free benzylic C(sp3)−C(sp2) defluorinative coupling between indole derivatives and polyfluoroarenes via the sequential electron transfer-proton transfer (ET/PT) process has been developed, affording various polyfluorinated diarylmethanes. This protocol features mild conditions and good functional group tolerance.
