Et3N, afforded high yields of the corresponding reactive amides –, -thioesters – and aryl esters – and –, respectively. The esters -, - and – reacted with excess β-lactose in pyridine, to give the corresponding β-esters, – resulting from esterification of the anomeric hydroxyl of the sugar.
