iodide or bromide to catalyze the ethoxylation of alcohols and phenols, giving good rates and narrow product distributions. The combined action of a weak electrophile [B(OR)3] and a weaknucleophile (halide) allows for the ethoxylation of base‐sensitive alcohols. Experiment suggests a new mechanism for this commercially important reaction proceeding through key β‐haloalkoxy intermediates.

to confirm the structure. The surface activity, biodegradability, antimicrobial, and antifungal activity of the surfactants were evaluated. In addition, quantumchemicalcalculations and computations of oral bioavailability were performed. The obtained data show that all the synthesized compounds had good surface activity, biodegradability and biological activity.

Ceria supported gold–platinum catalysts for the selective oxidation of alkyl ethoxylates
