p-Phenylbenzyl is developed as a new ‘PMB’ like protectinggroup. p-Phenylbenzyl (PPB) ethers were prepared from alcohols with PPBBr–NaH or p-phenylbenzyl trichloroacetimidate–TfOH and subjected to oxidative deprotection using DDQ or DDQ (10 mol%)–3 equiv. Mn(OAc)3.
