In the presence of zinc naphthenate as the catalyst, the reaction of phenyl isocyanate with 1,2-propanediol and 3,4-O-isopropylidene-d-mannitol gave the primary phenylcarbamates in high yield. 1,2,6-Hexanetriol was selectively phenylcarbamoylated at O-1, and N6-benzyladenosine at O-2′. The common methyl aldohexo- and aldopento-pyranosides gave the 3-mono(phenylcarbamate)s in fair to excellent yields
Two new β-xylosyl derivatives of ginsenoside Re, 20(S)-protopanaxatriol 6-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-[β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→4)]-β-D-glucopyranosyl-20-O-β-D-glucopyranoside and 20(S)-protopanaxatriol 6-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-[β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→6)]-β-D-glucopyranosyl-20-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, were respectively synthesized from p-nitrophenyl β-D-xylopyranoside and phenyl β-D-xylopyranoside as donors and ginsenoside Re as the acceptor in 25% acetone and acetonitrile by a cellulase preparation from Trichoderma viride and a β-galactosidase preparation from Aspergillus oryzae. The latter enzyme preparation also catalyzed the hydrolysis of ginsenoside Re to the minor saponin, ginsenoside Rg2.
The application of aryl substituted derivatives of xylose as environmentally friendly multipurpose pesticides

A series of aryl substituted derivatives of xylose have been synthesized. Biological tests have revealed high fungicidal activity of the resulting compounds against various phythopathogenic fungi. Additional biological studies have demonstrated high plant growth regulatory activity of the compounds synthesized.

Disclosed are D-xylopyranoside series compounds represented by the following general formula
in which R' represents
wherein X represents an oxygen;
Y represents a hydrogen, a lithium, a sodium, a potassium, a magnesium, a calcium or an aluminium atom; and p represents a valency of an atom represented by Y. In form of therapeutical compositions the compounds are effective against various diseases, including those caused by lipid deposition on the walls of blood vessels and cancer.
