consistent with carbonization of benzene and decomposition of non-absorbing acetonitrile in carbonizing benzene through collisions with excited benzene and/or its fragments. The solid products from benzene and acetonitrile–benzene mixture have large surface area and are characterized as nanomagnetic amorphous carbonaceous soot containing unsaturated C centers prone to oxidation. The nanosoot from acetonitrile–benzene

The aromatic compounds 1-methylborepin (I) and 1-methyl-3,6-dideuteroborepin (XXII) are formed in the reactionsbetween methylboron dibromide and the products of the hydrostannation of a 1/1 cis/trans mixture of 1,5-hexadiyn-3-ene (XIV) with diethylbromotin hydride and diethylbromotin deuteride, respectively. I and XXII are thermally unstable, yielding benzene and 1,4-dideuterobenzene, respectively

A photochemical synthesis of enediynes utilizing the Norrish Type II reaction is described. The application of this strategy to the synthesis of cyclic and acyclic enediynes from readily available precursors is discussed.
