One of the best ways to access collections of small molecules is to use various techniques in diversity‐oriented synthesis (DOS). Recently, a new form of DOS, namely “relaycatalyticbranchingcascades” (RCBCs), has been introduced, wherein a common type of starting material reacts with several scaffold‐building agents (SBAs) to obtain structurally diversemolecularscaffolds under the influence of
A series of 6-arylbenzothieno[3,2-c] quinolines were synthesised in three steps from benzo[b] thiophene. After a selective Heck-type coupling of benzo[b] thiophene with different o-nitroaryl bromides to obtain 2-(o-nitroaryl) benzo[b] thiophenes, corresponding 2-(benzo[ b] thiophen-2-yl) anilines were involved in a Pictet-Spengler reaction to form the quinoline cycle. Synthesis of fluorescent rhodamine dyes using an extension of the Heck reaction
Both benzo[b]thiophene and indole containing rhodamine dyes were synthesized according to a new pathway requiring a Heck-type coupling and a Pictet-Spengler reaction. The electron-rich indolic dye was shown to have noteworthy absorption and emission maximum. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
