Allylation of carbonylcompounds (aldehydes, ketones, esters, lactones, acid anhydrides) proceeds smoothly at room temperature by the reaction of a carbonylcompound, an allylic benzoate or allylic phenyl ether, diethylzinc, and a catalytic amount of Pd(0)-complex in THF under N2.

ABSTRACT In the presence of mercuric chloride, the reactions of esters with allyl bromide and metallic dysprosium in anhydrous THF give diallyl alkyl carbinols in good yields. When γ-butyrolactone is used as the substrate, the corresponding product is 4-allyl-6-heptene-1, 4-diol.

1–3, a two-step preparation of 3-hydroxypropyl and 4- hydroxybutyl propenyl ketones 10–18 is described, involving as the key step the β-cleavage of the bis(homoallylic) potassiumalkoxides 4a–9a. The novel methodology is illustrated by a short synthesis of (±)-rose oxide(20).

An efficient and a new procedure for the conversion of various carboxylic acid derivatives into the corresponding gemdiallylated compound under mild reaction condition has been developed. The triallyaluminum mediated Grignard-type addition of carboxylic acid derivative was utilized as a key operation to affect the transformation. The procedure is operationally simple, giving good to excellent product yields for a broad range of substrates. The chemoselectivity and regioselectivity of triallylaluminum were also demonstrated.
