  (EN) Described are novel reversible photochromic naphthopyran compounds, examples of which are 3H-naphtho[2,1-b]pyrans having an acyl or aroyl oxy-bearing substituent at the number 6 carbon atom and certain substituents at the 3-position of the pyran ring. Certain substituents may also be present at the number 5, 7, 8, 9 or 10 carbon atom of the naphthopyran. These compounds may be represented by graphic formula (I). Also described are polymeric organic host materials that contain or that are coated with such compounds. Optically clear articles such as ophthalmic lenses or other plastic transparencies that incorporate the novel naphthopyran compounds or combinations thereof with complementary photochromic compounds, e.g., certain other naphthopyrans, benzopyrans, and spiro(indoline) type compounds, are also described.(FR) L'invention concerne de nouveaux composés photochromes et réversibles de naphthopyranne dont certains exemples sont le 3H-naphtho[2,1-b]pyrans présentant un substituant portant un oxy aroyle ou acyle au niveau de l'atome de carbone numéro 6 et certains substituants en position 3 de la chaîne de pyranne. Certains substituants peuvent également être présents au niveau de l'atome de carbone 5, 7, 8, 9 ou 10 du naphathopyranne. Ces composés peuvent être représentés par la formule (I). L'invention décrit également des matériaux hôtes organiques polymères qui contiennent ou sont recouverts de ces composés. L'invention traite également d'articles optiquement transparents tels que des lentilles ophtalmiques ou d'autres transparences plastiques qui comprennent les nouveaux composés de naphthopyranne ou des combinaisons de ces derniers avec des composés photochromiques complémentaires, par exemple, certains autres naphthopyrannes, des benzopyrannes et des composés de type spiro(indoline).
