  Plants which infest maize cultivations are successfully combatted without damage to the maize by treating the infested maize with herbicidal esters of N,N-disubstituted glycines and an antidote having the general formula ##STR1## in which X is H or halogen; and R is H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl, poly (haloalkyl), alkenyl, poly (haloalkenyl), alkinyl, (poly) haloalkinyl all containing carbon atoms in a number ranging from 2 to 5, or phenyl.
