  The preparation of N-acyl derivatives of α-amino-α-benzylmercaptopropionic acid was investigated. It is described that pyruvic acid was treated with amides to afford N-acyl-α-amino-α-hydroxypropionic acids, which were then substituted into N-acyl-α-amino-α-benzylmercaptopropionic acids.
