Accoutrements of a molecular computer: switches, memory components and alligator clips
摘要:
Several second generation memory components consisting of oligo(phenylene ethynylene)s containing easily reducible functionalities consisting of either nitro or quinone cores have been synthesized for incorporation into molecular electronic devices. Additionally, two new types of contacts between organic compounds and a metal surface based on diazonium salts or pyridine have been synthesized and integrated into molecules for use in molecular electronic devices. The bromine or iodine atom in the quinonoid ring devoid of +M substituent in the position neighboring to the halogen is replaced by acetylenic groups on treatment with CuI acetylides, prepared either beforehand or in situ, in a mixture of DMSO and CHCl3 in the presence of a Pd complex catalyst. A series of mono- and diacetylenic derivatives of 1,4-naphtho- and 1,4-benzoquinone were prepared.
