    A monoadduct of [60]Fulleropyrrolidine having a 15-crown-5 structure has been prepared and characterised. It is found that the absorption spectrum of this crowned fullerene can be regulated hypsochromically by metal ions complexation.

    Several N-arylfulleropyrrolidine derivatives were synthesized via the direct solvent-free reactions of N-unsubstituted fulleropyrrolidines and nitrochlorobenzenes under microwave irradiation in the absence of phase-transfer catalysts. Their structures were confirmed by ultraviolet–visble, Fourier transform–infrared, 1H NMR, and mass spectrometry.

  • The synthesis of high-content fullerene functionalised polymers through the controlled addition of an amine-tagged fullerene derivative

    A method has been developed for synthesising a series of soluble C60 containing polymers which have the characteristic photophysical properties of monosubstituted-fullerene derivatives. The strategy employed required that first a suitably derivatised mono-fulleropyrrolidine was prepared and characterised which was then subsequently reacted with an acryloyl chloride functionalised polymer. The amino group of the fulleropyrrolidine reacts with the acyl chloride functional groups of the polymer forming an amide bond. This approach enabled the preparation of several soluble fullerene/acrylic polymers with a controlled and high covalently bonded fullerene content. The resulting fullerene derivatised methacrylate polymers were characterised by UV, infrared and gel permeation chromatography.

    The formation of azomethine ylides 3 directly from aminoacids and aldehydes and their addition to C60 is reported. The method provides a new route to N-unsubstituted fulleropyrrolidines 4a–4g.
