    Two new acyl glycosides, leucosceptosides A (IV) and B (V), have been isolated from Leucosceptrum japonicum (MIQ.) KITAMURA et MURATA, together with martynoside (III), acteoside (I) and an acteoside isomer (II). The structures of IV and V were determined to be 2-(3, 4-dihydroxyphenylethyl) 1-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→3)-β-D-(4-O-caffeyl)-glucopyranoside and 2-(3-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenylethyl) 1-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→3)-O-[β-D-apiofuranosyl (1→6)]-β-D-glucopyranoside, respectively, on the basis of chemical and spectral data.

    Two new phenylethanoid glycosides, namely -D-glucopyranoside, 1-O-(7S)-7-(3-methoxyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-7-methoxyethyl-3--L-rhamnopyranosyl-4-[(8E)-7-(3-methoxyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-8-propenoate] (1) and -D-glucopyranoside, 1-O-(7S)-7-(3-methoxyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-7-methoxyethyl-3 ''-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-4-[(8E)-7-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-8-propenoate] (2), together with six phenylethanoid glycosides were isolated from Cirsium setosum. Their structures were elucidated by their spectroscopic data and references. Compounds 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8 (10M) exhibited moderate hepatoprotective activities. Compounds (3-8) were obtained from this plant for the first time.[GRAPHCIS].

    Eudesmin, syringaresinol dimethyl ether, kusaginin and brachynoside were isolated from the ethanol extract of the leaves of Clerodendron brachyanthum. The new glycoside, branchynoside, was assigned as 2-(3, 4-dimethoxyphenyl)ethyl 3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-4-O-(3, 4-dihydroxycinnamoyl)-β-D-glucopyranoside from studies on partial methylation and methanolysis products and from analysis of spectroscopic evidence.
