1,1,4,4-Tetracyanobutadienes (TCBDs) derived from ynamides and bearing diverse fluorene-based chromophores or other tricyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were prepared. The conceived sulfonamido-TCBDs showed remarkable photophysical properties covering a large range of wavelengths from the visible region to the NIR. They displayed an environment-sensitive emission that was observed in nonpolar solvents and
