A facile and efficient synthetic procedure of o-phenylenedizinc(II) compound from o-diiodobenzene and zinc powder under the irradiation of ultrasound is reported. The compound was proved to be a unique reagent supplying o-phenylenedianion of high chemoselectivity. Symmetrically 1,2-diaryl or diaroyl substituted benezenes were obtained in good yields by Pd(0)-catalyzed cross-coupling of the compound
