This method enables the mild oxidation of various functionalized compounds, including olefins, sulfides, phosphines, and silanes. Preliminary mechanistic experiments and theoretical calculations suggest that visible light triggers molecularoxygen to produce singlet oxygen in butanone. This singlet oxygen then reacts with
