  In one aspect, the invention discloses a polymer suitable for use as a support upon which to synthesise organic molecules. The polymer is a cross-linked polymer including the following structure formula (1) or an un-cross-linked polymer having the structure of formula (2): wherein at least one of X1 to X5 in formula (1 )and X1 or X2 in formula (2) is (a): where n is 1 to 10,000, and Z is: where m is 1 to 10,000. In another aspect, the invention discloses a method of producing a polymer suitable for use as a support on which to synthesise organic molecules, comprising polymerising at least one ethylene glycol based monomer and optionally at least one cross linking agent containing at least two polymerisable groups in a single reaction.
