    Molded articles having a maximum thickness of 3 centimeters and including a polyetherimide composition are described. The polyetherimide compositions include 60 to 99.9 weight percent of a polyetherimide having a weight average molecular weight of 5,000 to 80,000 Daltons, and 0.1 to 40 weight percent of an aryl phosphate having a molecular weight from 500 to 1,200 Daltons, wherein weight percent is based on the total weight of the composition. The compositions have a melt flow at least 10% greater than the melt flow of the same polyetherimide composition without the aryl phosphate, measured according to ASTM D1238 at 337° C. under a 6.7 kilogram load.

    A thermoplastic composition is described herein including a first polyetherimide sulfone having a glass transition temperature of 250 to 290° C., and a second polyetherimide sulfone having a glass transition temperature of 230 to 249° C. The composition has an advantageous combination of optical properties including improved yellowness index, transmission, and haze. A method of manufacturing the thermoplastic composition and articles including the thermoplastic composition are also described. A method for improving the optical properties of a thermoplastic composition is also disclosed, where the method includes melt mixing the first and second polyetherimide sulfones, each having a glass transition temperature as defined herein. The method provides a composition having at least one of improved yellowness, haze, and transmission.

    A polyimide-forming composition includes a particulate polyimide precursor composition having an average particle size of 0.1 to 100 micrometers wherein the polyimide precursor composition comprises a substituted or unsubstituted C4-40 bisanhydride, and a substituted or unsubstituted divalent C1-20 diamine; an aqueous carrier; and a surfactant. A method of manufacturing an article including a polyimide includes the steps of forming a preform comprising the polyimide-forming composition; and heating the preform at a temperature and for a period of time effective to imidize the polyimide precursor composition and form the polyimide. An article prepared by the method, and a layer or coating including a polyimide and a surfactant are also described.

    A thermoplastic composition comprising, based on the total weight of the thermoplastic composition: 40 to 80 wt. % of an aromatic polycarbonate; 10 to 40 wt. % of a reinforcing mineral filler; 0.05 to 1.5 wt. % of a fluorinated polymer; 10 to 35 wt. % of a polyetherimide; 0 to 1.5 wt. % of sodium trichlorobenzene sulphonate; optionally, 1 to 8 wt. % of an organic phosphorus-containing flame retardant; optionally, 0.05 to 20 wt. % of an impact modifier; and optionally, 0.05 to 5 wt. % of an additive composition comprising an antioxidant, a mold release agent, and a stabilizer.

    Disclosed herein is a friable polyimide powder having a weight average molecular weight, as determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) using polystyrene standards, of less than or equal to 24,500 Daltons and a reactive aromatic amine end group concentration greater than or equal to 3 mole percent, wherein 90 weight percent of the powder particles are reducible to less than or equal to 75 micrometers by mechanical grinding. Also disclosed is a method of making the friable polyimide powder, a processed polyimide resulting from the friable polyimide powder and compositions comprising the processed polyimide.
