The first enantioselective approach to 13a-methyl-14-hydroxyphenanthroindolizidine alkaloids was achieved in six linear steps from phenanthryl alcohol and features a highly substrate-dependent Parham cycloacylation and Seebach's enantioselective alkylation as the key steps.
