A coating composition for paper comprising a mineral pigment and a polymer latex prepared by emulsion polymerization of an aliphatic conjugated diene monomer, an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer and a monoolefinic monomer in a weight proportion of 24.5 - 50 : 0.5 -5 : 45 - 75 in the presence of a chain transfer agent, characterized in that the chain transfer agent is carbon tetrachloride and an alkylmercaptan in combination.

Azlactone functional silicon containing compounds are prepared from alkenyl azlactones and SiH containing compounds in a hydrosilation reaction. The resulting compounds can be reacted with nucleophilic compounds to group containing silicon compounds. When the amidoacyl group containing silicon compounds contain ethylenic unsaturated they can be polymerized to provide polymeric networks useful as pressure sensitive adhesives release compositions, or elastomeric materials.

A copolymer latex which is useful in an adhesive composition, a paper coating composition, an adhesive composition for carpet lining and an adhesive composition for a rock fiber substrate is prepared by emulsion copolymerizing an aliphatic conjugated diene monomer and at least one other monomer copolymerizable therewith in the presence of a chain transfer agent and at least one compound having no copolymerizing reactivity selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbons having 5 to 12 carbon atoms, halogenated aromatic hydrocarbons, five or six membered ring heterocyclic compounds, aliphatic ethers and aliphatic esters in an amount of 1 to 100 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of a total amounts of the aliphatic conjugated diene monomer and the other monomer.
The invention provides a flame retardant material which comprises a flame retardant polymer emulsion obtained by the polymerisation of at least one unsaturated monomer comprising at least one phosphorus atom. Preferably, said monomer is copolymerised with at least one co-monomer. The flame retardant material may be used for the preparation of flame retardant formulations which find particular application in the preparation of intumescent coatings, back coating layers for fabrics, flame retardant finishes for wood, textile fibres and polymer castings. The flame retardant materials of the invention show significant advantages over the materials of the prior art in terms of ease and cost of preparation and with regard to health, safety and environmental considerations.

Provided is a binder composition for lithium ion secondary battery electrode-use that reduces internal resistance of a lithium ion secondary battery while also providing the lithium ion secondary battery with excellent life characteristics. The binder composition contains a copolymer X and a solvent. The copolymer X is obtained from a monomer composition X that contains at least 20.0 mass% and no greater than 75.0 mass% of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid compound (A) composed of either or both of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid and an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid salt, and at least 20.0 mass% and no greater than 75.0 mass% of a copolymerizable compound (B) that has an ethylenically unsaturated bond and a solubility of at least 7 g in 100 g of water at 20°C. The copolymer X has a degree of swelling in electrolysis solution of less than 120 mass%.
