Double lithiation of 2-(chloromethyl)-3-tosylpropene (4) with n-butyl-lithium at −90°C in the presence of DMPU leads to the dianion 5, which by reaction with deuterium oxide affords the corresponding 3,3-dideuteriated product 6.
