    We report the synthesis of novel polyether-based polyols derived from simple glycosides that bear sulfur spacers in the attempt to potentially provide new antibiotics. The CI-MS demonstrated the stepwise and successive fission of the sulfide-spacer groups; however, it does not distinguish between the alditols having different arrangement of O(CH2)(3)-S(CH2)(2)OH groups. The investigated compounds exhibited antimicrobial activities against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and antifungal activities against Candida albicans at a concentration of 1 mg / ml in DMF.

    The present invention provides a thermoplastic polymer composition containing a particular phenol compound or organic phosphoric compound, compound (9) which is compound (9a) represented by C m H 2m O m wherein m is an integer of not less than 3 and not more than 10, and having one aldehyde group or ketone group and m−1 hydroxy groups with at least one hydroxy group having been replaced by an alkoxy group represented by —OR 26 wherein R 26 is a C 1-12 alkyl group, and a thermoplastic polymer, and a processing stabilizer containing a particular phenol compound or organic phosphoric compound, and compound (9). A combined use of a particular phenol compound or organic phosphoric compound and compound (9) can improve processing stability of a thermoplastic polymer composition.

    The invention involves the development of a substrate and assay procedure for the scientific measurement of cellulase in admixture with other enzymes active on cellulose or 1,4-β-D-gluco-oligosaccharides, or in various levels of purity of the cellulase. This substrate being characterised by the fact that it contains at least 2 glucose units linked β-1,4-, with the reducing end glucose unit linked β- or α- to a compound which exhibits an optically measurable change on cleavage of the bond between it and the adjacent D-glucosyl residue and the non-reducing terminal D-glucosyl unit is covalently linked to a blocking substituent which inhibits cleavage by exo-acting enzymes of the bond between the terminal and non-reducing end, penultimate D-glucose unit.
