The invention relates to a water-dispersible hybrid polymer comprising an unsaturated fatty acid-functionalised polyester at least 40 mole% of which contains conjugated double bonds, which polyester has an acid number of less than 5 (mg KOH/g) and is built up of cycloaliphatic and/or aromatic dicarboxylic acids and aliphatic dicarboxylic acids in a molar ratio of 5:1 to 40:1, onto which polyester an addition polymer chain (shell) having an acid number in the range of 20 to 100 (mg KOH/g) has been grafted.
Aqueous dispersions of said hybrid polymers are suitable for use in aqueous coating compositions with a high solids content. Films produced by using such coating compositions have good physical and mechanical properties and prove chemical - and water-resistant as well. A process for coating a substrate with such composition is also provided.
