  Compounds having the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are alkyl or cycloalkyl; R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are alkyl or phenyl; and R is hydrogen, alkyl or a trialkylhydroxybenzyl, Are good antioxidants and thermal stabilizers. These compounds are prepared by reacting the corresponding alkylated 4-hydroxybenzyl-tert-amine with a malonate ester in the presence of an alkali metal alkoxide.
