  Several methods for the removal of the benzyloxycarbonyl group from Z-Ala-Phe-Lys(Z)CH3 have been tested. Only catalytic hydrogenation in acetic acid gives the desired products with satisfactory yield and without racemization at C-alpha of lysine.
