    There is provided a suppository comprising at least one biocompatible polymer, wherein the biocompatible polymer is essentially non-biodegradable, and wherein the suppository essentially does not swell when contacted with an aqueous fluid. The suppository may further comprise a plurality of open cells at least partly separated from one another by an interpenetrating matrix comprising at least one biocompatible polymer in branched or crosslinked form. The plurality of interlinked, open cells are capable of containing an aqueous fluid, and the permeability of the suppository ensures that entry of body fluids into the open cells under practical circumstances occurs essentially without dehydration of mucousal membrane tissue contacting the suppository. The suppository furthermore preferably comprises a controlled release formulation.

    This invention is directed to stable dispersions of copolymers in polyols containing added unsaturation. The polymer dispersions are prepared by reacting a polyol containing added ethylenic unsaturation and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer or mixtures thereof in the presence of a free radical catalyst characterized in that the dispersion is prepared by the Williamson synthesis or a phase transfer catalyst modification thereof employing in situ polymerization of the ethylenically unsaturated monomer or mixtures thereof in the polymer containing added ethylenic unsaturation. The unsaturated polyals prepared by these methods may be used alone or they may be blended with polyols not containing added unsaturation. The dispersions are relatively low viscosity liquids which are useful in the preparation of polyurethanes such as, for example foams and elastomers.

    A flexible, highly resilient, cold-cure, closed-mold polyurethane foam can be produced by reacting a foamable mixture comprising an organic isocyanate, water and a polyol. The foams of the invention are preferably prepared from a mixture of a hydroxyl-terminated graft copolymer and a hydroxyl-terminated polyoxyalkylene polyether in the presence of a co-catalyst mixture of at least one tertiary amine catalyst and at least one metal-containing basic catalyst. Said catalyst is selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal hydroxide, an alkaline earth metal hydroxide, an inorganic basic salt thereof derived from the reaction of said hydroxides with a weak inorganic acid, a metal organic basic salt catalyst derived from the reaction of at least one of said hydroxides with an organic acid and mixtures thereof. Useful metal organic catalysts are selected from the group consisting of the alkali and alkaline earth metal carboxylates, alkoxides and phenates. Useful inorganic basic metal salt catalysts are sodium bicarbonate and sodium carbonate.
