The matrix isolation technique has been used to study the initial intermediate products of the reaction of molecular fluorine, F 2 , with several alkyl sulfides, as well as with trimethylphosphine. While previous studies of the reaction of these bases with ClF and Cl 2 demonstrated that charge transfer complexes are formed no evidence has been here for complex formation.
