  Phosphonium salts as a novel metal-free Lewis acid catalyst can be considered as organocatalysts. The introduction of a five-membered dioxaphosphacycle to the phosphonium salt is critical to its function as a Lewis acid catalyst for the Diels-Alder reaction.
