acid gave 2,6-diphenyl-3-carboethoxy-4-iminopiperidine (I), in the form of the hydrochloride. Action of aqueous ammonia on the hydrochloride gave the enamine form of the imine, i.e., the substituted 4-amino-l,2,5,6-tetrahydropyridine (II), which could be transformed into compound I by dry HCI in absolute ether. This established the 4-imino 4enamine transformation in the 2,6-diphenyl-3-carboethoxypiperidine
