The synthesis of novel 1,2,4 triazolo[2,3,4‐c, d]pyrimido[4,5‐d]pyrimidine derivatives has been described from N‐substituted amides of 1,2,3,4‐tetrahydro‐6‐methyl‐2‐oxo‐4‐thio‐5‐pyrimidinecarboxylic acid 1. Amides 1 treated with 80% hydrazine hydrate, followed by aqueous‐ethanolic formaldehyde form substituted triazolo[4,3‐c]pyrimidines which cyclize in pyridine to triazolopyrimidopyrimidine derivatives
